Cisco Police involved in two pursuits, three arrested

On Saturday, October 15, 2022 Lt. Lee Risdon attempted to stop a vehicle travelling in excess of 100 miles per hour which led to a high-speed pursuit that eventually ended in Baird, Texas. The vehicle which was a 2022 Dodge Charger was later located by Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers at the Love’s Truck Stop on IH20 resulted in the arrest of Peter Douglas Karmazin, 21 of Frisco, Texas. He was transported back to Eastland County by Lt. Risdon where he was booked into Eastland County Jail for Felony Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. Thanks to Trooper Michael West for his assistance. On the early morning hours of Sunday, October 16, 2022 Cisco Police received a call of a possible disturbance in the area of West 3rd Street. Eastland County Sheriff Deputy Colby Jackson, who was in Cisco at the time responded to assist Officers Gunstanson and Munoz. Upon arrival to the area near Chesley Field, Deputy Jackson encountered a white Chevrolet pickup driving recklessly. Upon attempting to make contact with the driver, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed travelling down Harrell Street passed the Voy Wilks Sports Complex. Chief Kenneth Preston who was also in the area joined in the pursuit as it crossed over on to Mancill Ave and then out on to FM Hwy 2945. The vehicle fled at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour down the FM Hwy and eventually crossed over into Callahan County and later turned onto Hwy 880 and went under the Interstate 20 overpass. The pickup then headed West on the service road for a short distance before climbing a grassy embankment and driving into oncoming traffic of Interstate 20. After making a turn Eastward the pickup then continued to flee police back toward Cisco until reaching the 330 Exit where it then crossed over the Hwy 206 overpass and into downtown Cisco. The pickup later turned down Ave. G where it created a cloud of dust which caused the officers to lose site of the vehicle. An investigation ensued which determined that the driver was a 16-year-old male accompanied by a second 16-year-old male as his passenger. The pickup was reported stolen a short time later by the rightful owner. A search was conducted for the vehicle which was later located parked in the old baseball fields near East 14th by Chief Preston. Fortunately, the truck was returned to the owner with little visible damage. Lt. Lloyd Fagan, Lt. Risdon, Officer Derek Gunstanson, Officer Sam Munoz, Deputy Jackson and Chief Preston all worked on the investigation which later resulted in the driver fleeing police on foot after being discovered hiding in a local residence. The two males have since been detained on multiple felony offenses. They were transported to the Ron Jackson Detention Facility at Brownwood, Texas awaiting their appearance before the 91st District Court.
