25th Annual Magi’s Bazaar at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary

The Magi’s Bazaar at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cisco has returned. We were so disappointed to cancel our 2020 gathering but are excited to host our Silver Anniversary this year. The Altar Society of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church will hold their 25th Annual Magi’s Bazaar at the Holy Rosary Parish Hall, 1106 Avenue F in Cisco (behind Brookshires), on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Bazaar will feature handcrafted holiday items, unique home décor and gift items, jewelry, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations, and lots of mouth-watering baked goods. Some of our handcrafted items include scarves, quilts and quilted items, crocheted scrubbies, dishrags, and warm fleece blankets. For baked goods, we will have pumpkin and pecan pies, pumpkin rolls, sourdough bread, cookies and cakes, candies, and fudge. You can enjoy these baked goodies right away or freeze them for the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays. The Altar Society ladies will also tempt you with an assortment of homemade jams and jellies. For our hungry morning shoppers, we will have breakfast burritos, along with pastries, scones, and muffins to enjoy with coffee. Chili, frito pie, and pulled pork sandwiches – with tea or coffee – will be available for take-out lunch. Homemade enchiladas and tamales can be purchased to take home for lunch or supper. Our thanks to our loyal supporters for shopping with us over the years. Your support has helped us maintain the sacristy and sanctuary in our 101-year-old Church in a manner befitting the glory of God and fund the Margaret Torres Higher Learning Scholarship. Everyone is invited – come join us for a funfilled day of shopping, visiting, and feasting on home-cooking! Save the Date – Magi’s Bazaar on Saturday, November 6th!

When A Heartfelt Letter Changes the Game

Becca Heidelbreg of Cisco has started a caring movement at Texas Tech University of bringing back the lost art of handwritten letters to encourage the Texas Tech Football Team members each week whether win, lose, or draw. The West Texas Spirit is alive and well as every week over 140 individuals, called the “Sideline Supporters” write letters of encouragement to the players and coaches. Becca Heidelbreg, a former Texas Tech University Alumna and a former Texas Tech Alumni National Board member from Midland, Texas, wrote a letter to the former Texas Tech Head Football Coach Kliff Kingsbury during a tough season. The coach’s immediate response and appreciation kindled Becca’s desire to continue this type of encouragement project. Becca knows there is a lot of pressure on these young men ranging in age from 18-22 who are expected in win each week. The “Sideline Supporters” are there to encourage regardless of the outcome of the games. In 2016, Becca started with a Facebook page that encouraged people to sign up and pray and encourage individual players or coaches. This type of unconditional love and support has spread, and other Universities have followed suit, such as Texas A & M and University of Texas. The project has also expanded to include the Texas Tech Basketball program.
