Ethel Irene Collier

Mrs. Ethel Irene Collier, the wife of the late George Michael “Big Mike” Collier of Nimrod, Texas, joined her beloved husband in our Heavenly home on March 22, 2020.

Ethel Irene Magnus was born July 28, 1949, to Cyrel Fred Magnus and Marion Charles Aubrey in Galena Park, Harris County, Texas. On May 12, 1973, Ethel married George Michael Collier. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend Ethel is survived by her three sons Troy Collier of Texarkana, Darrell Collier of Nimrod, Jason Collier, and wife Becky also of Nimrod and daughter-in-love Melody Collier of Hawley. Ethel is also survived by her grandchildren Courtland Slavens, his wife Kristen and sons Bentley and Jeremy of Fairbanks, Alaska, Patrick Cline and son Raylin of Hawley, Joshua Collier and wife Ashley of Las Vegas, Nevada, Caroline Madsen and husband Travis of San Angelo, Jordan Collier of Cross Plains, Michael Collier of 29 Palms, California, Michele Collier of Hawley, Jacob Collier of Nimrod, Krista Collier of Hawley and Jody Collier of Nimrod, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ethel was a shining light in the lives of all who met her. A Nurse for 30 years, Ethel worked in Baytown at Humana Hospital in Labor and Delivery and Abilene Regional and Hendrick Medical Center also in Labor and Delivery. Music and Faith were central to her, and she loved to play the piano and sing, surrounded by her family and friends. Ethel was also a Master Gardener and could make anything grow in the sandy loam of her Nimrod farm. She will be remembered for her beautiful voice, fantastic flower beds, her shining spirit, and love for her family and friends.

Ethel is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 40 years Mike Collier, her father Cyrel Magnus, and mother, Marion Aubrey, and son Madison Lane Collier.

As per her wishes, Ethel will be cremated, and her ashes spread up under the great oak in the garden with her beloved husband, Michael. A memorial service to celebrate Ethel’s life will be held at the time. Family and friends will be notified of the date and time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Cross PlainsPublic Library, so that others may know the joys of reading as she did or to St. Jude Children’s Research.
