Leslie B. Vance Jr.

Leslie B. Vance, Jr., 79, passed to Eternity on January 18, 2019, at his home in Meadowlakes, Texas, surrounded by his friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 1, at 1:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, where he was an active member for many years, with Dr. Ross Chandler officiating.

After proudly serving his country with the United States Marine Corps, Leslie went to law school and had a successful legal career that spanned more than 40 years. Among his accomplishments, Leslie served at various times as District Attorney for Bosque, Comanche, Hamilton and Eastland Counties. He also proudly served as Assistant Attorney General in the Law Enforcement Division under Attorneys General Dan Morales and John Cornyn. At his retirement from public service, Leslie was Chief Counsel for the Inspector General, Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Milta, daughter Kathryn Vance Ernemann (Bob Ferguson) of Burleson, son Leslie “Byron” Vance III (Miller) of Chicago, and son Josh Vance (Brandy) of Eastland. His eight grandchildren are Hope Lane, Michael Nicholas (Macayla), Zack Ernemann, Warner Vance, Tucker Vance, Mary Morris Vance, Riley Vance and Lourdes Vance, and two great-grandchildren; sisters, G’Ann Jones of Clifton, TX and Bobbie Baird of Floyd’s Knob, Indiana. Special survivors include Rosie Franco and Capt. Kathy Wills who lovingly cared for Leslie in his last months.

Leslie was more than just an attorney. Wherever he worked or wherever he went, he was a mentor, teacher, counselor, mediator, cheerleader, advisor, role model and friend. He loved an audience to hear his ‘stories’ and reveled in making each re-telling better than the one before. He spread his joy as he delivered his gifts of peaches, pecans, tomatoes and his mother’s ‘famous’ cinnamon rolls to so many of his friends.

Arrangements under the care of Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.
