Retha June Dossey

Retha June Dossey (June) age 85, of Gorman, passed away March 23, 2020 at the DeLeon Nursing and Rehab Center.

June was born July 16, 1934 in Hobbs New Mexico to T.E. Vandagriff and Mary Ruth (Linam) Vandagriff.

June married Darrell Dossey on September 28, 1951 in Hobbs New Mexico. Together they had four children. They moved their family to Eastland County in 1962 after Darrell became a Baptist Minister. Darrell pastored several Churches in the area, and for many years they also farmed and ranched near Desdemona. In 1978 they moved into Gorman where he pastored First Baptist Church for several years. June always supported her husband along the way. She was a homemaker, a farm wife, and always exhibited the perfect grace and elegance of a pastor’s wife. They were married until he passed away in March of 2008.

June was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gorman. She was an excellent pianist, seamstress, cook, and she loved spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

June is survived by her daughter Tracy Spivey; brother, Jim Vandagriff; sister, Dana Mosman; son in law Jack Simpson and daughter in law Lesa Simpson. She had eleven grandchildren: Jarrett Dossey, Clint Dossey, Chance Simpson, Rachel Simpson, Cody Simpson, Casey Simpson, Brenna Riddile, Seth Dossey, Adam Spivey, Colby Spivey, and Lauren Spivey. Eight great- grandchildren: Kane Wilson, Kloe Wilson, Kamry Carter, Kimberlynn Everhart, Laken Spivey, Braden Spivey, Jocee Dossey, and Rett Dossey. Also, several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rev. Darrell Dossey; two sons, Gary and David Dossey; one daughter, Becky Simpson; son in law, Steve Spivey; two brothers, Ted and Jerre Vandagriff; and one sister, Donna Nichols.

A graveside service was held at the Desdemona Cemetery on Friday March 27, 2020 at 3 PM.
