Ron Barrow

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ron Barrow, of Eastland, on January 6th, at the age of 78 years old. A special man, Ron Barrow, departed this earth to join our Lord and Savior on a beautiful Thursday morning.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Millie and his daughter, Sherinda and her husband Albert Garcia. Ron will be missed by his two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: His grandson, Coy Johnson and his wife, Candice with their children, Sophie, Riley, and Abby. His granddaughter, Colbi Johnson and her daughter Lyra. Ron also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Ellen Atherton and Mary Townsend along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as countless friends including lifelong friends, Charles and Jakie Martin of Midlothian.

Ron was proceeded in death by his parents, Coy Hayden and Jessie Lee Barrow as well as his two sisters, Zelma Gardner and Melba Wallace.

Ron was born in Lone Oak, Texas to Coy Hayden and Jessie Bynum Barrow. He grew up in the country working cattle along with planting and picking cotton. He attended Lone Oak High School and played 6-man football, ran track, and boxed. In his Senior year, Ron was selected Most Handsome in his class. In 1960 Ron met his future bride, Millie Townsend and they were married on September 2, 1961, in Greenville, Texas. During those wonderful 60 years, Ron and Millie traveled extensively including trips to Europe, Africa, Hawaii, Mexico, and most of the USA.

Ron was Plant Manager of Bailey Hat Company in Fort Worth, Texas, and continued as President when the company became B Bar B Hat Company. His love and passion for manufacturing fur felt cowboy hats were showcased in numerous movies including Pure Country with George Strait. This allowed him to rub elbows with many country artists and cowboy legends. He was well known in the hat business and many people sought his assistance with the process. During this time, he traveled to New York, Pennsylvania, Spain, England, and Portugal obtaining material to make the hats. Ron retired in 2000, and he and Millie made Eastland their home. Ron was a fourth-generation Texan and loved the outdoors with all the wildlife and fauna. He was an avid hunter and managed a 30,000-acre hunting ranch for 23 years. Ron touched many lives with his passion for wildlife sustain ment and preservation. His hunting adventures took him to different parts of Texas, various Northern states, South Africa, and Namibia. He was a true outdoors man and enjoyed dirt bike riding, fishing, water skiing, and snow skiing.

Ron was devoted to his family and was loved and respected by many. We know Ron and his lifelong friend Butch Ford are sitting around plotting their next move!

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, with a BBQ luncheon at 1:00 P.M. at the Barrow Ranch, 609 County Road 461, Eastland. All family and friends are invited to attend the cele bration.

Ron was passionate about preserving native Texas wildlife. One of his focuses was on the decline of the quail population in West Texas.
