Mavs end season withlosstoIndians

The Eastland High School Mavericks completed their 2022 season on Friday with a tough 49-7 setback to the Comanche Indians. With the loss, the Mavericks finished the season at 1-9, including a 1-4 mark in District 5-3A action. Comanche cinched the district championship and a No. 1 seed heading into the postseason. The Indians showcased their punishing ground game early against Eastland. Comanche scored twp touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and built a commanding 29-0 halftime cushion. They tacked on two more TDs in the fourth quarter.

Hicks, Hampton shine at state XC meet

Andrew Hicks and Hadli Hampton made sure all eyes were on Eastland County this past weekend at the 2022 UIL State Cross Country Championships in Round Rock. Both turned in outstanding efforts in their respective races. An Eastland High School star, Hicks legged out a top 15 finish in the Class 3A boys’ division. He turned in a time of 16 minutes, 36.9 seconds on the Old Settlers Park course and finished 12th overall. Hick’s time was less than a minute behind the winning pace in the 5-kilometer race set by Holliday’s Noah Stroman. Hampton gave Gorman fans plenty to cheer about as she did well in the girls’ Class A race. Hampton turned in a time of 13:59.9 in the 3,200-meter race and took 59th overall.
