No. 2-ranked Bearcats deal Mavs a 36-12 setback

Even in defeat, the Eastland Mavericks had plenty to be optimistic about following their 36-12 loss to the Hawley Bearcats on Friday. Despite falling to 0-3 for the season, Eastland flashed signs of life offensively. The Mavs rolled up more than 350 total yards offensively against Hawley, which is ranked No. 2 in the latest Dave Campbell’s Texas was moved to the BHS 13. Long’s ensuing pass for the two-point conversion was batted down.

Fast start helps Hawks hold off Mavs

Isaiah Hays’ first start as the quarterback for the Eastland Mavericks didn’t have a storybook start, but it did leave the Mavericks eager to see the next chapter unfold. Hays passed for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns in the Mavericks’ 49-20 loss to the Wall Hawks on Friday. Wall Wall put the Mavericks in a deep hole early in the season-opener. The Hawks scored on three of their first four possessions and raced to a 28-0 lead before the Mavericks got their offense going.
