William Jay “Bill” Carmack

EASTLAND- William Jay “Bill” Carmack was called home to meet his Eternal Savior January 17, 2019 at the Dallas VA hospital. Gravesite services and Military honors will be held on Saturday February 16th at 1:00 in Eastland cemetery. He was born in Gorman, TX on June 22, 1949 to Ira J “Bud” Carmack and Katherine Herrell Carmack. Bill was a lifelong resident of Eastland.

Bill was a giving and caring man, who spent his life helping others. Family and friends knew if they needed help to just give him a call. He had a longtime career as a truckdriver, until health forced him to retire. He was also a welder, carpenter, machinist, mechanic and horse trainer.

Bill proudly served his country in the Army and was in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. He was a lifetime member of VFW post 4136 and was a past post commander. He was active in the Ranger Veterans Support Group and assisted in many community projects. He dedicated his time to helping and supporting fellow veterans and donated countless hours volunteering at VFW Post 4136.

Preceeded in death by his parents Ira Jay “Bud” and Katherine Carmack and brother Dale Carmack

He is survived by his son Clayton Jay Carmack and wife Heather; daughter Melissa Petrey and husband Rick, daughter Cindy West and husband Blake. Sister Cora Wright; brother Melvin Carmack; Uncle Norman Carmack; and his loving companion of 16 years Jo Hogan of Gorman. 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Following internment everyone is invited to celebrate Bill’s life at VFW post 4136.
