TxDOT Historic Bridge Legacy Program

TxDOT Historic Bridge Legacy Program

The Texas Department of Transportation oversees a Historic Bridge Legacy Program to facilitate the adoption of historic bridges that outlive utility for vehicular service. All bridges available under this program are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The bridges are owned by TxDOT, cities, or counties and merit special consideration of their potential for preservation in the community. The primary emphasis of the program is to find a new public use for the bridges, such as along a hike-and-bike trail or in a public park.

Glenn Rogers Tx. State Rep. District 60 Newsletter

As the weather gets hotter, the work in the district gets busier. During these past two weeks, my staff and I attended multiple legislative conferences, toured state facilities, and finished up our meetings with the schools in House District 60. On July 20th, I took a trip to Possum Kingdom Lake with County Judge Shane Long and County Commissioner Mike Reed. We discussed, at length, the need for greater transportation infrastructure at Possum Kingdom especially after the fires that took place earlier this summer. Possum Kingdom Lake is a hidden gem of our great state, and by improving mobility, our communities could capitalize on the influx of tourists who visit every year. At the same time, the current roadways connecting the houses to the lake are not suitable for emergency vehicles. It could take up to 45 minutes for an ambulance, fire truck, or law enforcement vehicle to cross from one side to another. As a member of the Transportation Committee, mobility for isolated, rural areas and the fast-growing suburban areas of the state is a top priority. Each county has its own unique needs, and through quality infrastructure, we can keep our communities safer and more connected.
