New Website to give More Transparency in Tax Rate Process

The 86th Texas Legislature modified the manner in which the voter-approval tax rate is calculated to limit the rate of growth of property taxes in the state. Your property tax burden is determined by your locally elected officials. The Texas Constitution requires local taxing units to make taxpayers aware of tax rate proposals and to afford taxpayers the opportunity to roll back or limit tax increases. Two major components of your property tax calculation are Exemptions and Tax Rates which are both determined by your Taxing Units (School District, County, City, etc.) These are NOT determined by the Appraisal District. The Texas Legislature allows you, the taxpayer, to attend the public hearings and meetings in which the Tax Rates are proposed and adopted by each Taxing Unit. You do have a voice!

HELP FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT: Eastland Fire Department is shown helping us out at the Eastland County Today newspaper office. Our flag rope broke and we needed help stringing it back up. Thank you Eastland Fire Department Fire Chief David Branch and Charlie Torrez. Photo by Brooke Reep

WEAR A MASK

I learned this past week that EISD is not requiring students and teachers to wear masks to school this year. I am appalled!
