The clock didn’t strike midnight on the Ranger Bulldogs’ storybook season on Saturday in front of a large crowd at the Bears Den in Baird. But Jordan Jaramillo’s fourth-quarter touchdown reception certainly shattered the Tyler Heat’s hopes of repeating as the independent six-man football state champions.

The Ranger Bulldogs etched their names deep into the history books on Sunday afternoon. Less than 24 hours after claiming a 47-30 junior varsity win over the Centex Homeschool Chargers in Temple, the Bulldogs received the invitation they had been hoping for: a trip to the state championship game.
When the 2021 season began, Ranger head coach Eric Sanchez said his team had the potential to do very well as an independent team in the six-man football ranks. Just how well depended on the team’s performance.
The Ranger Bulldogs scored touchdowns on their first three offensive plays and raced to an easy 46-0 victory over Newman International Academy of Mansfield on Thursday in front of a small crowd at O.C. Warden Stadium. The game ended at the half due to the six-man football 45-point mercy rule.
