Lady Rangers grab 3rd at national tourney

The Ranger College women’s golf team made history on Thursday by powering its way to a bronze medal finish at the 2021 NJCAA Women’s Division I Golf National Championships om Ormond Beach, Fla. Overall, Ranger College earned the third-place honors at the tournament, which was held May 10-13 at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club.

Ranger athletes shine at area track meet

The Ranger High School boys’ and girls’ track teams raced their way to 13th in their respective divisions at the Class 2A Area Track and Field Championships in Rio Vista. Jose Martinez highlighted the Bulldogs’ outing. He accounted for the team’s four points by legging out a fourth-place time in the 800-meter run. He posted a personal best time of 2 minutes, 5.69 seconds in the event. Cordell Mitchell also did well. He was fifth in the 400-meter run with a mark of 53.59. The RHS foursome of Mitchell, Ashton Shope, Nico Farmer and Martinez turned in a time of 3:46.70 and placed seventh in the 4x400-meter relay. Junior Brook Huffman starred for the Lady Bulldogs. She was seventh in the grueling 3,200-meter run, and sixth in the 1,600.

The Ranger College men’s basketball team qualified for its third trip to the NJCAA national championship tournament on Saturday by defeating Western Texas College, 90-65, in Big Spring. The Rangers will begin play in the tournament on April 19 against Cochise College of Douglas, Arizona.

BIG SPRING - As he stepped off the bus and made his way into the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, Ranger College sophomore Jorell Saterfield flashed a smile and promised everyone it was time to make history.
