At the age of 81, Dr. Sandra Hazelip stunned everyone when she announced she was going to take Jules Verne’s advice and travel around the world in 80 days. Not necessarily by balloon, but she and her friend, Ellie Hamby, did.

A well-known Eastland physician, Hazelip added to her list of accomplishments on Friday when she was presented the 2023 Golden Deeds award by Terry Slavens at the Eastland Chamber of Commerce’s 61st Annual Golden Deeds Award Banquet. Upon being named the 2023 recipient, the 81-yearold physician received a standing ovation from the standing-room-only crowd at The Lumber Yard Events Center.
