By Tommy Wells The Eastland Mavericks proved themselves among the best 7-on-7 football programs this past week at the 2023 Dave Campbells’ Texas Football 7-on-7 tournament in College Station. Eastland finished second in its pool and advanced to the first round of the single-elimination championship.

The Mavericks opened the Division III action on Thursday morning with a nail-biting 33-32 win over Childress in the opening round off Pool A play. The Mavericks hopes of claiming the top seed in Pool A were dashed in their next outing as they dropped a 28-13 decision to Three Rivers.

Eastland bounced back nicely in their final pool play outing, downing Groveton by a dominating 32-0 margin.
