Letter To The Editor

Editor, Voters will have the opportunity to vote on several propositions at the election on November 7th. Some may wonder what Proposition 9 is really about. Basically, it is a proposition to give retired teachers a long overdue Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

Editor, Voters will have the opportunity to vote on several propositions at the election on November 7th. Some may wonder what Proposition 9 is really about. Basically, it is a proposition to give retired teachers a long overdue Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

Here are some things to consider while deciding: 1. Public school retirees have not received a cost-of-living adjustment since 9-1-2004 . Most retired teachers are not eligible to receive Social Security.

Those who have worked other places may receive a reduced amount of Social Security because of being public school teachers. A pension from the Texas Retirement System quite often is their primary source of income.
