Lady Panthers stay at No. 2 despite first two losses

The Goman Lady Panthers held onto the No. 2 spot in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 1A poll despite dropping a pair of games this past weekend.

The Goman Lady Panthers held onto the No. 2 spot in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 1A poll despite dropping a pair of games this past weekend.

Gorman received the second-highest point total in the weekly poll and finished behind only Throckmorton in the Dec. 4 rankings. Former No. 1 Nazareth slipped to No. 4 following a loss.

Part of the reason Gorman’s ranking didn’t suffer due to the losses was the caliber of opponents the Lady Panthers fell to in the Breckenridge tournament. The team’s two setbacks came against Class 5A Wichita Falls Rider and Class 3A’s toprated squad, Jim Ned. Gorman suffered a 7-point loss (34-27) to Rider and a 19-point setback to Jim Ned.
