Bethel Strawn settled near where the present town of Strawn is located; this is a Palo Pinto County town, near the Eastland County line, and was named for him. The Jewel Cemetery is all that remains of the early settlement of Jewel, Texas, located SE of present Carbon, Texas. It bothers me when I read about how Desdemona got its name. Although several suggestions have been given, I am surprised that no one seems to realize that in the play Otello there was a lady actress named Desdemona. Quoting Langston one more time, “It is curious that a man, forgetting things he once loved, and moved by the spirit of unrest, will sever ties of long standing and expose himself and his family to untried dangers.” (Again I must recognize Johnny Mc-Daniel and his earlier research in newspapers I have used)
