The Eastland High School Mavericks went into the 2023 football season knowing they were looking to reload under new head Bobby Schuman. And they did.
The Mavericks’ talents were put on full display last week when the 2023 District 5-3A postseason accolades were handed out. No les than 16 EHS players, including Griffin Beard, earned spots on the all-district roster.
Beard, who emerged as one of the Mavs’ top offensive threats this season, was among the district’s top players. A freshman running back, he was selected the 2023 District 5-3A Newcomer of the Year after gaining 289 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 50 attempts on the offensive side and racking up 80 tackles on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage.
