A surprise attack escalated the Vietnam War. The Vietnamese New Year, known as TET, is one of the most important celebrations in the nation’s culture. During the Vietnam War, this time in observance of the holiday. However in 19668, North Vietnamese generals saw the occasion as the perfect time to launch a surprise attack on the Americans and South Vietnamese forces.

The goal of the attack was to start a rebellion among the South Vietnamese citizens, forcing the US to withdraw from Vietnam.
