The Eastland High School Mavericks and Lady Mavericks both picked up wins on the diamond last week in the first week of baseball and softball action.
The Mavericks opened their 2024 season with a bang, nailing down clutch wins over Merkel and Olney. The Mavs defeated Merkel by a 4-3 margin on February 19. In that game, Eastland scored twice in the fourth inning and then held on to nab the 1-run win.
The Mavs finished off their 2-0 start by blasting Olney on February 22 by a 6-2 margin. Eastlabd broke open a close 2-2 affair in the bottom of the sixth by scoring four time.
