Ainsworth, Herrera among 5 Mavs to punch tickets to Area meet

William Ainsworth and Sammy Herrera were among five Eastland Mavericks to nail down berths in the upcoming Area track meet last week. The two secured trips to the track and field postseason with second-place finishes in their respective events.

Ainsworth soared to second in the boys’ pole vault competition with a vault of 11 feet, 6 inches and finished. Herrera raced his way to a silver medal in the 800-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 46.66 seconds.

Only the top four finishers in each event qualify to compete in the Area track meet, which will be held this weekend in Breckenridge.
