Reading gives us the tools to learn about story structure, character development, themes, symbolism, and so much more. Without reading to back up our writing, we are simply meandering about on the keyboard. Stephen King agrees and says so in his nonfiction book On Writing: “If you don’t have the time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.
