Cisco College has recently been awarded a $600 “Bring Back Monarchs to Texas Garden Grant” (BBMT Garden Grant) for the Spring 2025 semester. According to Justin Ceniceros, Biology Professor and Chair of the Division of Science, the contribution will support the installation of a Monarch Butterfly Garden around the Stamey Hall Science Building at the Cisco Campus.

Sylvester Lopez, CC transportation coordinator, has been leading the Lady Wranglers volleyball team in this project along with science and agriculture students. Students have already started preparing garden beds on the south side of the greenhouse. The plan is to have first plantings by springtime, Ceniceros said.

Agriculture Professor Brandi Terry’s Horticulture class will be in charge of setting up the grant-based butterfly demonstration garden, and students from the General Botany Lab, located on Cisco Campus, will help grow many of the plants from seed.
