Ranger Lions Club members were privileged recently to hear the account of an amazing woman who broke down barriers and overcame obstacles to reach her goal of pursuing a college education and completing her doctorate.
Dr. Lora Helvie-Mason is Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Professor, Department of Communication Studies at Tarleton State University.
Achieving this goal was not a given, however: Dr. Helvie-Mason described her younger self as being embarrassedly shy, very quite, a reader, and mostly living in her own world. She was the daughter of a single mother who worked multiple jobs to provide for the family.
