Editor, City councils all over the United States helped new businesses in their towns to start and grow for over a half century, and they prospered long before Economic Development Corporation’s where created in 1979. We can do this again today just like towns did in the past.
Do you think it’s time the city council chooses to help the citizens? A while back a notification of possible fines was mentioned about not having the brush and weeds cleaned up on your property like the city code states. Although I agree with cleaning up, it’s kinda wrong to expect the citizens to hold up their responsibilities while the city hasn’t lived up to theirs by paving the citizens roads in years or decades. All our families deserve to finally half their tax revenue back to help replace their critical sewer pumps. And not just keep putting patches on lengths of failing water mains. But replace the water line. Fix the roads on a scheduled time frame. Barely getting by is not a good strategy for our city to be doing. Tax paying city residents should come first. How long are we willing to let these things go before they are failing more, and more often.
City council’s back before 1979 did everything a Economic Development Corporation is capable of doing. But they could also use ALL the tax revenue for the things that helped the towns people. Street’s, water mains, and sewer systems along with helping new and existing businesses. By returning our sales tax revenue to the city we can do these things without tying up hundreds of thousands of dollars. And not being restricted by the rules of the CDC anymore. At present we are struggling to find 10’s of thousands of dollars in savings or In fees and rate increases to just reach a break even point. Let’s bring back over a half million dollars to our city’s budget each year along with up to a million dollars of expendable assets in property that can be used to add to the city budget. So many people fill that the city hasn’t been helping them. We have nothing to loose BUT everything to gain by freeing up our tax dollars to be used where and when it is needed. This is a 100 percent gain of our sales tax revenue back to the tax paying citizens for what matters to them.
