Glendon Don Guy Obituary

Glendon Don Guy Obituary

Glendon Don Guy, born January 22, 1944, in Gorman, TX, passed peacefully into God's kingdom on May 17, 2025 in Austin, Texas. He was the fourth and the last child born to J.F. and Siegel Beaty Guy of Carbon. Don grew up on the family peanut farm and literally had to milk cows before school each day. Don graduated from Carbon High School in 1962 where he played football and enjoyed acting in his class’s senior play. He furthered his education at Ranger Junior College before joining the Texas National Guard. While at RJC, Don worked part-time at a printer shop in Ranger and discovered his true calling. His military obligation beconned and Don took time out from his formal education to serve his country. When he returned from active duty, he worked at Victor Cornelius Printing Company in Eastland and enjoyed playing baseball on the Eastland team. Later in Austin, he joined a bowling league and enjoyed skiing on the numerous lakes in Central Texas.

Encouraged by a National Guard friend to come to San Antonio to work, Don headed south. Not liking the low wage scale for the printing industry in San Antonio, Don decided to try Austin where he immediately found a job to his liking with Austin printing. As a necessity, Don learned to repair all types of equipment in the graphic arts field. This skill set led to a better job with Thompson Printing and eventually with a company that morphed into Fujifilm Corporation. Don was asked to form a service department, which he headed, and was responsible for training service men as well as installing new equipment and servicing many different brands of graphic arts equipment. Don eventually started his own service company, Don Guy Tech Service, and found working for himself very fulfilling. Early in his life, Don began collecting arrowheads from his family's farm as well as some of the neighboring farms. Each time his father plowed a field, a new crop of arrowheads was discovered. Later in life, Don enjoyed collecting coins. He loves to keep a beautiful yard, plant and enjoy a vegetable garden, and plant colorful flowers for all to enjoy. His yard was the envy of all his neighbors wherever he lived.
