On June 5th at the Myrtle Wilks Community Center, the Cisco Writers Club and friends celebrated 50 years of (as the motto goes) “helping writers where they are.”
It was a large turnout, and families of charter members came to read works written by their associated charter member.
The celebration fell on the one-year anniversary of charter member Catherine Worthy’s passing. Catherine’s son, Walton Worthy, and niece, Mandi Salas, attended the gathering. Walton read the short story “Not as Buzzard Meat” that his mother had written. What could have been a tearful experience had Walton chuckling because “Not as Buzzard Meat” was a tense story that ended on a humorous note.
