WE HAVE BEEN ASKED:
Other than notifying the shop owners that the business was checked over night, is there a benefit to leaving notes on the doors? The answer is YES! Cisco PD routinely, and as part of our commitment to our local business owners, leave security slips on the doors of the stores, restaurants, churches, etc. This does more than just notify businesses that the establishment was checked. It also provides a narrowing point for us if something occurs after that time. Simply we will know that the incident happened between that recorded time and the time that it was discovered. WHY DO YOU WORK THE INTERSTATE 20?
Cisco PD does work traffic on IH20 because there are approximately 3 miles of the highway that are within the Cisco City Limits. We do this for a variety of reasons, but most importantly for the safety of the motoring public. Also, the first line of defense to criminal activity is the mere presence of law enforcement. Criminals who are traveling and looking for opportunity to commit crimes will see a pro active police agency at work. Further, Cisco residents use IH20 as well. If we are making it safer in our little stretch of the interstate, likely it will make it safer for everyone. Cisco PD is responsible for working most crashes that occur on IH20. Often some of the automobiles coming through Cisco are not safe or fit to be on public roadways. Our presence there has reportedly made a great number of them take different routes in order to avoid being stopped by CPD. Further, if you see officers working traffic on IH20, there will almost always be another unit on duty inside the downtown areas. Cisco PD has seized a number of vehicles off of IH20 that were used for felonious puposes. Once the vehicles are awarded to us by the court system, these become assets that we can sell or put to use for legal purposes. The proceeds from the sale of these vehicles are used to supplement law enforcement needs that may not be covered by budget allocation. In some cases cash seizures are made as well. While we are active on the interstate we are not a substitute for the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers. Our Troopers are busy covering a multitude of issues and we always appreciate their presence. We are ready to assist them in any way possible.
