Last week Elizabeth Kahura shared her stories, songs, and culture from her life growing up in Africa. The audience learned some of her native language as they sang songs. The children got to play different percussion instruments as they sang and chanted. The time Ms. Kahura shares with us is always fun and educational.
Our last summer program is STEAM Day. It will be held on Thursday, June 26th, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. This is a come and go event. This program is geared toward children who are 7 years old and older. We will be working with small items that are a choking hazard and using tools that could be dangerous for younger children to handle. Some of the activities will include opening geodes to discover what is inside, dissecting owl _________ _______ ______ keyrings, playing with the Sphero robots, rock painting, mosaic art, plus several other activities.
This year’s program sponsors are Clint Coffee from State Farm Insurance, Bobby Blackwell from Farm Bureau Insurance, Jayton & Roxanne Bailey, Nick & Heather Herrera, Tractor Supply, and a grant received from The Texas Library Association and HEB Grocery Stores. KATX Radio Station, Walmart, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, The Majestic Theater and City Hall have provided the items for the prize drawings and other giveaways.
