To celebrate the life and memory of Margaret Torres, the Altar Society of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cisco established the Margaret Torres Higher Learning Scholarship in 2017. This $1,000 scholarship, provided for the Fall Semester, promotes education for our young people – an idea that was so very important to Margaret. She was a strong believer in the value of education, having retired from Cisco ISD where she was a Teacher’s Aide helping children learn to read. We enjoyed Margaret’s wit and wisdom for over 87 years, and it is an honor to offer this scholarship in her memory.
We are proud to announce that the Holy Rosary Altar Society is able to provide two $1,000 scholarships this year. The first scholarship recipient this year is Angel Gonzalez. Angel completed his freshman year at Tarleton State University in Stephenville with a 3.6 GPA. Angel made the Dean’s List, a recognition that he achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale for a given semester. He is pursuing a degree in business. The second scholarship recipient is Lauren Callahan, currently a senior at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, majoring in Kinesiology. While at Texas Tech, Lauren has maintained a 4.0 GPA, accomplished while also working part-time as a patient care tech at Trust Point Rehab. Lauren plans to complete her undergraduate studies during the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters and graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in May 2026. She then intends to pursue a three-year doctorate program in Physical Therapy. PG-13
The Holy Rosary Altar Society is committed to offering this scholarship on an annual basis. We will raise scholarship funds throughout the coming year, including through our Magi’s Bazaar in early November. We appreciate and are so thankful for the Eastland County community support in our projects – Bless You!
