October 1, 2025 CITIZENS OF CISCO On November 4th, there is a very important election for the future of Cisco. It is essential that we get every citizen to cast a vote. Your vote will decide how the income from our state sales tax will be used. It will also bring about one million dollars more yearly into the City income. In addition, the CDC’s current cash and properties valued at possibly several million dollars will be returned to the City.
The sales tax money collected here is sent by the business to the State of Texas. Two percent of that money is then sent to the City of Cisco to be used to run the city. This and the City Property Tax is the only income the city has in providing you water, sewer, good streets, etc. With this money, the city also pays for the City Manager, the police and fire departments, and other employees to keep all the utilities and services running. The City Council positions are unpaid volunteers who make decisions where the city’s money is spent.
In 1994, the Citizens of Cisco voted to give one-half of the sales tax money (or one percent) to form Cisco Economic Development Corp (called CEDC or CDC in this editorial.) It would be their job to bring new businesses to Cisco. These businesses were to bring in more sales tax, providing more income for the City. They were to bring in factories to provide more employment for the Citizens. It sounded like a good thing, but that isn’t exactly how it turned out.
