They need your vote now While we where trying to convince the city council to put this on the ballot for you to be able to choose how your sales tax revenue is used for yourselves. It seemed like the opposition was basically trying to convince the council not to put it on the ballot at all. Showing that they didn’t really want to vote on it. And now that it’s on the ballot. Here we are, they need your vote now. Because now they need you all of a sudden. Imagine that !
We are the only town around this area that gives half their sales tax to their economic development corporation. The others only receive a quarter of a percent of the city sales tax . Why do we give double that??? Alright so during all this time we were trying to get the city council to put this on the ballot . Not one person came in and said hey the town is struggling to the point of not even being able to just pay the bills, and The streets , sewer and water pipes are getting worse. So how about we put up for vote to lower the amount of sales tax revenue to only 1 quarter of a percent like the other towns . (since the cdc apparently has several million dollars of tax money in cash and several million in your tax dollars tied up in property that’s stuck there until someone comes along and buys it .) so since there is more than enough to continue their purpose without tying up more money. so let’s let the city get some money back to help pay for fixing the towns critical infrastructure! Nobody did this , none of them , think about it. The cdc has been working for you for 30 years . But here we are now. Almost broke with crumbling infrastructure. Maybe it’s time for a new path.
Remember Cisco grew and flourished for probably close to a hundred years before the cdc was started in 1994. The CITY can absolutely still do everything the cdc does, by creating a economic development department it’s self without tying up the whole million dollars each year. While allowing the city to be able to use a large percentage of that million to actually start using it for our citizens critical infrastructure Year after year. Getting our infrastructure back on track before it gets even worse. We lose nothing while GAINING FLEXIBILITY on how all 2 percent of our sales tax revenue can be used. Think about the advantages of that . We fought hard for every citizen to have this choice, WE don’t have an alliance, were just trying to let the citizens who ACTUALLY live in Cisco and deal with the streets, old sewer and water lines know that their is another very viable path to take to start getting our infrastructure back on track. We spend our time and effort to go to the city meetings. To see what’s going on and try to let you know. We don’t gain anything from it. We don’t want control of your tax money $$$$. That’s up to your ELECTED city council .
