The Clifton Cubs scored twice in the second quarter on Friday and then held on to claim a 28-6 victory over the Eastland Mavericks in the District 5-3A opener for both teams.
With the loss, the Mavericks slipped to 0-6 for the year and, more importantly fell to 0-1 in district.
