It could soon be legal to drive your golf cart on the roads in Eastland. Well, at least, part of them.
The Eastland City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance establishing guidelines for operating golf carts on city roadways at their October 20 meeting. The council have to approve a second reading before the measure becomes effective.
Under the proposed ordinance, residents will be able to utilize their golf carts on nonstate- owned roadways within the community if they meet certain criteria, including be equipped with seat belts, lights (for use in the night), blinkers and other safety equipment required for vehicles operating on city streets. They will also be required to carry liability insurance.
