Letter to the Editor of Eastland County Today October 30, 2025 CITIZENS OF CISCO The November 4th election is five days away. This election will decide whether we continue to give the CDC one-half of the City’s sales tax income that is only being spent for improvements to Cisco. Or whether we close the current CDC, and open a new CDC within the City offices, that can do the same thing as the current CDC does, plus work on water line, sewer line and street repair. Let’s review the FACTS.
The City of Cisco does not have enough income to properly run the City, and are also in debt for almost a million dollars. (It is rumored the money is owed on new water meters, a broken, sewer pump at the water plant, and CDC payments.) Day by day, things change. (It is rumored that the building on the interstate has been sold, “at a $200,000 loss” by the CDC, and now the City must run an expensive sewer line to it. It is also rumored that the City sold the CDC, airport land, for around $500,000 which should help the City pay some of its debts.)
The City can run our CDC cheaper and more efficiently than is done now, as recommended by our City Attorney. Most towns the size of ours manage their own CDC. If they have a separate CDC, it is only given, one-quarter of the sales tax income. Lately, CDC money has been spent on businesses, services (such as doctors and apartments) part of Legacy Park, Christmas lights, and part of paving 18th street. If the CDC was within the City offices, the City would be returned our sales tax money of several million in cash and property. The City would be able to pay its debts, and have an additional estimated one million added to our income yearly. This would allow the City to repair or replace water and sewer lines, and make street repairs. All expenditures would be approved by our elected, City Council.
