Letter To Editor

Letter to Editor I have lived in Cisco for more than 46 years; my mother was born here and graduated from Cisco High School in 1952. In the past decade, my husband and I have actively participated in local politics by attending city council, school board, and other state and county meetings. Recently, we haven't been attending as many meetings because of personal and work obligations. While participating previously, we noticed that many citizen concerns were ignored, particularly those about taxes, poor planning, and mismanagement of public funds. Although we chose to step back for a time, this issue is simply too significant for us to remain silent.

I strongly support the Cisco Economic Development Corporation, which demonstrated great results under John Diers' leadership. During Mr. Diers' time, Cisco experienced impressive growth. Although I didn't always agree with him and was on the opposite side at least once, I respect his impact. After Mr. Diers left, I only met his replacement once and didn't closely follow subsequent projects. Still, everyone in Cisco has witnessed the city's transformation, moving beyond the typical smalltown look seen in many places struggling to attract new industries and businesses. The purpose of the Cisco Economic Development Corporation is to use sales tax revenue from within the city to invest in new projects that create jobs, boost property values, generate additional tax income, and ultimately ease the tax burden carried by residents.

Can the city afford to lose this advantage and defund this program?
