As I write this article, tomorrow is Veterans Day, a holiday so many people take for granted. It is easy for people to forget what is not seen on a regular basis. However, we must annually visit this day to remind us of all of the men and women that have secured the blessings of liberty and freedom to us all by putting their lives on the line. Memorial Day is for remembering all of those that gave their lives to secure our freedom and the freedom of others, but Veterans Day is for those that that survived! Those men and women that came home, many scared mentally, physically or internally. The ones that live among us that carry the weight of the awful things they’ve seen, the physical injuries done to their bodies on the inside and the outside. We owe these veterans our thanks and our gratitude! I write this as one who was the son of a career United States Air
Force Officer. It does my officer in the Air Force. My heart good to hear someone thanking a veteran in public for their service. I never heard my father thanked. He passed away in 1999 after being retired for 25 years. He died from cancer from being over exposure to nuclear material while while serving as a weapons opinion! I want everyone to know how proud he was to serve his country and never once blamed the over exposure or the Air Force for his condition. He never said a word about it to his family. In fact, I did not know about the over exposure until I reviewed some of his records after he passed away. I say all this to emphasize that all of the veterans I have known are just as proud of their service and few share anything about their bad experiences! My son’s father-in-law passed away this year due to cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. They are all heroes! They all appreciate it when someone thanks them for their service. I thank all the veterans reading this for their service and I hope the next time you pass a serviceman or a veteran wearing a cap depicting the branch of the service in which they served that you would thank them! They earned it!
How about those Gorman Panthers! They seem to be getting better each week. I know they appreciate your support attending their games. Congratulations to the Panthers and their coaches for making the playoffs! The Panthers face the May Tigers this Friday night at 7:00pm right here in Gorman. Please come out and support them!
We really have a great school here in Gorman! Our new superintendent has done a great job of previous administration left. He is also implementing new programs for students pursuing futures in the trades as well as providing for dual credit college courses for students that want to continue a college degree. There are good things happening at Gorman ISD!
The City Commission convened their regular meeting on November 6, 2025, in the Gorman Community Center. Minutes were read and approved, the bills were approved for payment, citizens were invited to address the Commission, and department reports were received. The Commission then approved the replating of lots in the Kimble Addition and then considered and approved a rate increase of 4% for refuse services as per their contract with Republic. The second reading of Ordinance 2025-09-04 was then approved as well as a budget amendment to pay for improvements to the new city maintenance vehicle. The majority of the expense for this vehicle was paid with a grant. An employee 90-day probation period was completed and approved. The Commission then approved for the City to apply for a solid waste grant available through West Central Texas Council of Governments. The Commission then discussed plans for the Christmas meal and employee Christmas Party and approved changing the January Commission meeting to the second Thursday so as not to meet on New Years Day.
The work on Highway Six is making progress and is looking good. Please remember that even though the contractors are trying not to block anyone’s vision when crossing Highway Six but, sometimes while they are working a machine might have to block clear vision temporarily until Always cross the highway with caution!

My only desire as Mayor is to see our town improve and for Gorman to be a desirable place for us and new folks to live. This is your town, these are your Commissioners, and I am your Mayor, David Perry. Thank you for allowing me to serve Gorman!
