Setting Writing Goals
At the beginning of 2025, I set a goal to publish a collection of short stories. My big obstacle: perfectionism. I tend to get stalled trying to make things (stories, paragraphs, even certain sentences) perfect. The president of Cisco Writers Club, Shann Arriaga, says we have to let go of perfectionism to make progress. So I further clarified my goal: “I will let go of perfectionism so I can publish a collection this year.” It worked; my collection was published last month.
Arriaga is not only the president of Cisco Writers Club and a talented author, she’s also a writing coach and the owner of Kadesh Ink Author Services. Arriaga will be the speaker at our December meeting where she’ll help us define and set writing goals for 2026.
