Eastland Councilman ‘appreciative’ of First Responders’ efforts

By Tommy Wells Eastland City Councilman Michael J. Hackney held back his emotions on Monday as he thanked first responders for their actions and care recently. He credited their efforts with saving his life during a recent medical issue.

Hackney told members of the public attending the December 15 meeting that he became unresponsive while at home recently. Members of the Eastland Fire Department, along with other first responders, answered calls for assistance from his family and “saved my life.”

“I want to express my thanks to the city and the first responders to my recent ailment,” he said. “You don’t know how important it is until you feel like your life is on the line.” Hackney said while he was at home, he passed out. When he awakened, he said he was surrounded by eight first responders, who quickly cared for him, and then had him flown to Harris Medical Center in Fort Worth.
