Dennis Myers Shawver

On Friday, January 23, 2026, there was great celebration in Heaven when Dennis Myers Shawver, age 83, went HOME to be with JESUS!

Dennis was born October 10, 1942 at the family home in the Westover community in Baylor County. He was the son of Earl David and Mary Inez (Myers) Shawver. Dennis graduated from Seymour High School, Class of 1962. His family relocated to the Nimrod community in 1963. Thanks to that move, Dennis met and fell in love with Glenda Gale Eudy whom he married in December 1964. They shared almost 57 years of marriage before her passing in December 2021. Dennis worked at the local sale barns as well as the family farm before he and Glenda moved and made their home in Baylor County. He was a cowboy and ranch hand for several outfits in north Texas and for a time in South Dakota.

Dennis eventually hung up his spurs and the family settled in Windthorst where he worked for Berend Brothers at the egg processing facility for 20 years. During this time he spent many years serving as a volunteer fire fighter. After retiring from Berend Brothers in 1994, he and Glenda moved back to Nimrod where he spent the first 15 years of so of his "retirement" farming, raising cattle and goats, as well as working at Thornton Feed Mill full time.

In 1996, Dennis rededicated his life to the Lord and became a born again member of the Nimrod Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He wholeheartedly loved that little church and his church family. Farming and ranching was in his DNA. He was still caring for livestock up until his Homegoing to Heaven to reunite with his beloved wife Glenda, his parents Earl and Inez Shawver, his older brother Thomas Shawver, and many other angels and saints there to welcome him Home.

Left to cherish his memory, and tidbits of wisdom shared through the years, are his children: son Curtis Shawver and wife Katha of Cisco, daughter Denise Sutton and husband Tommy of Nimrod, son Robert Shawver of Nimrod, and his baby girl Stacie 52* Kennedy and husband Ryan of Nimrod. His sisters, Barbara Morton and Bonnie Kanady, with husband Warnie, all of Nimrod, will miss him terribly. His four children gave him the gift of 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren (#16 on the way), plus the countless "adopted" kids, grands, and greats that were all welcome to call him "Papa", a title he was very proud to carry.

Dennis loved his family more that anything, except, of course, God and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! He lived a simple and wholesome life, the epitome of being a good human. He enjoyed playing games on the computer and his phone, visiting, spending time with family, napping, and the quiet life in the country. Dennis never met a stranger. His life was most blessed and highly favored. Dennis loved everyone and he was equally loved in return by all that knew him.

Visitation will be 12:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Nimrod Baptist Church. Services will follow at 2:00 PM, led by his Brother in Christ Bill Armstrong. Burial will be in the Haskell Cemetery (located on the Family Farm in Nimrod). His grandsons will be serving as Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Nimrod Baptist Church, 3302 FM 569, Cisco, Tx, 76437, to the Nimrod Cemetery Fund, 118 FM 3265, Cisco, Tx, 76437, or to the charity of your choice.
