Rendezvous With Writing
Marston House by Jennifer Neville Maddle is about a hundred-yearold house in Ranger, Texas. It’s an architectural beauty (this is before its real-life demolition) that has fallen into disrepair … and it may be haunted. The author investigates the abandoned house, and what starts as a curious exploration of the grand abode’s architecture turns into a ghost hunt, an examination of the town’s history, and a scrutinizing look at one of Ranger’s all-time prominent citizens, Hall Walker.
Maddle’s ambitious investigation at first met with closed lips from Ranger’s citizens, but she was tenacious. The more she probed, the more she uncovered the complexity of Marston House’s (and Walker’s) history. It’s fascinating.
