Martha Jo Bailey

Martha Jo Bailey, beloved mother, grandmother, and neighbor, passed away on April 10, 2026, at the age of 92. Born and raised in Rising Star, Texas, Martha lived a life defined by warmth, generosity, and an open door for anyone who needed it.

A proud and devoted homemaker, Martha had a gift for making people feel welcome. Though

gentle and soft-spoken by nature, she had a way of drawing people in. Her home was a gathering place for family. She had a particular talent in the kitchen, and her baking was legendary. From cookies to pies and everything in between, she poured her love into every recipe. Some of her most treasured moments were spent at the counter with her grandchildren by her side, flour on their hands and something sweet in the oven.

Beyond her baking, Martha found deep satisfaction in her garden and in the timeless art of preserving food, which was a reflection of her desire to nurture and provide for those she loved. Even as her health declined in her later years, her instinct remained the same: to care for others before herself.

Above all, Martha was immensely proud to be a grandmother, and her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were the joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Floyd Guynes and Ethel Earvline McClanahan Guynes Taylor; her husband, Gerald Dean Bailey; her siblings, Elmer, Floyd, Jimmy, and Irene Guynes; and her daughter, Jackie Holder.

She is survived by her brother, Bobby Guynes; her sons, Ricky, Russell, and Jerry Don Bailey; her grandchildren, Chris Bailey, Randi Austin, Leanna Bailey, and Jeremy Bailey; eight great- grandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.

Martha Jo Bailey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, her cooking, and the warmth of her home will live on in the hearts of her family and community for generations to come. A viewing will be held at Higginbotham’s Funeral Home Friday, April 17, 2026, from 6pm-8pm followed by a graveside service at Blake Cemetery Saturday, April 18,2026 at 11am.
