TxDOT urges safe driving in work zones Work Zone Awareness Week is April 20–24

AUSTIN – To maintain and improve our state’s massive roadway system, construction crews often work just a few feet away from fast-moving traffic. To protect crews and the traveling public, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)’s Drive like a Texan traffic safety initiative is urging Texans to be safe and drive smart in the state’s road maintenance and construction areas. Join us in South Austin as TxDOT recognizes National Work Zone Awareness Week April 20–24. We’re calling on drivers to slow down, stay alert, and scan for signs and flaggers to avoid preventable crashes and fatalities. The Be Safe. Drive Smart. campaign is an important part of TxDOT’s Drive like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe. initiative. Drive like a Texan is about embracing the pride, camaraderie and responsibility of being a Texan on the road. By making thoughtful choices, we can all help keep each other safe.
