Burl Petree was born Christmas Day, 1936 to Joe and Lula Petree in Longbranch.
Burl was a 1955 graduate of Carbon High School. On September 14, 1956, he married Donnie Owens and moved to Cisco. They were happily married for nearly 70 years.
Burl was employed at Boss Manufacturing and later the City of Cisco. In his spare time he was an avid gardener and football fan of his favorite teams, the Cisco Loboes, Texas Longhorns, and Dallas Cowboys. Burl was a faithful member of Mountain Top Church from its early days in the country to its modern establishment. He made it a habit to read his Bible daily, completing it multiple times from cover to cover each year. His faith ended in sight on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 89 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Thomas Petree and Joe Lee Petree, sisters Bonnie Fay Petree and May Dell Petree, and brother in law Bob Johnson. Burl is survived by his wife Donnie, daughter Debbie, sons Butch (Lynn) and Jon, his twin sister Murl Johnson, younger sister Betty Sue Jones (Rev. John C. Jones) and sister-inlaw Betty Jane Petree. Survivors also include 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at 9:00 to 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Kimbrough-Jacobs Funeral Home, 200 W 9th Street in Cisco. Graveside service will follow at Longbranch Cemetery, with Pastor Phil Green of Mountain Top Church officiating.
