Council Members exchange Barbs as Fortenberry steps down as City Manager

By Tommy Wells Saying intimidation tactics and aggressive behavior from two members of the city council had created a “hostile work environment,” Savannah Fortenberry announced her decision to step down as the city manager for the City of Eastland on Monday night in front of a large crowd in the city council chambers.

Her resignation sparked a heated exchange between Mayor Michael Hackney, councilman Joe Williamson and councilman Larry Vernon that led the city attorney to step in and ask for a quick adjournment.

“Gentlemen, I hope you are proud of yourself for putting something like this on the Internet,” said Vernon, holding up a printed document published on the internet after Fortenberry called current working conditions within the city untenable.
