Annita Joyce Duncan Cate Obituary

Annita Joyce (Duncan) Cate, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Eastland community left us peacefully on September 7, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on April 16,1945, in Columbus, Georgia, Annita was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit touched the hearts of her family and friends throughout her journey. A proud graduate of Carbon High School, where she excelled as a head cheerleader and athlete, Annita brought passion to all she embraced. Her love for music flourished as she played the piano for many years at Bethel Baptist Church and Union Grove Baptist Church in Navasota, Texas. Annita dedicated herself to community service as both church secretary and treasurer, embodying her belief in nurturing connections and supporting others. Married to Marvin Vernon Cate from August 6, 1963, until his passing on January 2, 2026, Annita thrived as a devoted wife and mother, always ensuring that her family felt cherished and cared for. Known affectionately as the "Mother Hen," she took immense pleasure in her role as a mother and grandmother, always present for school events, family gatherings, and reunions, where laughter and love filled the air. She is remembered by her grandchildren as a tender, steadfast presence who wore her title of grandmother as a badge of honor. She rarely missed an opportunity to proudly announce her role in their lives, eagerly sharing their milestones, accomplishments, and everyday victories with friends and family. Her warmth, deep pride, and tender nature left a lasting mark on every life she touched. Annita is survived by her loving children, Shelli Cate, Tracy Roberts, and Curtis Cates, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Brandon Roberts, Cameron Roberts, Tristan Cates, Tessa Cates, and Kirstin Mitchell and her husband, Damian. She also leaves behind her great-granddaughters, Elliot and Francis Mitchell, her brothers Larry Duncan and wife, Maria and Don Duncan and wife, Coletta, and her sisters Beth Williams, Karen Moore, and Fran Winingar and husband, Thom, along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members. Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate her extraordinary life, filled with love and joy. Annita was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Vernon Cate, Jr., and her beloved parents, Obie and Cleo Duncan. Funeral services to honor Annita's life will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland, officiated by Bro. Don Duncan. Following the service, Annita will be laid to rest at the Flatwood Cemetery, where her spirit will continue to shine bright among the stars. A visitation for all who wish to pay their respects will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland.
