Late TD lifts Bearcats to upset of Loboes

The Hawley Bearcats scored on a long 25-yard pass with less than two minutes left in regulation on Friday and then held on to claim a stunning 35-31 victory over the Cisco Loboes in District 5-2A action in Hawley.

With the loss, Cisco slipped to 4-3 overall and, more importantly dropped into a fourway tie for second in the district standings with a 1-1 record. Hawley, which had entered the game winless in district, moved to 3-4 and 1-1. The Bearcats took advantage of a slow start by Cisco on a cool night. Hawley scored the only points of the first quarter via a short touchdown run and went into the second quarter with a 7-0 lead.

The Loboes roared back. Cisco reeled off 24 points in the ensuing 12 minutes, including a 27-yard field goal by Terrick Hernandez that enabled them to take a 24-21 halftime cushion. After July Johnson had helped the Loboes put together a solid drive to end the first quarter, the CHS offense found paydirt on the first play of the second quarter. They scored via a 5-yard run and drew even at 7-7.
