Floodplains, Subdivision Regulations Remain Items of Public Interest at County Commissioners Meeting

Two items placed at the end of the October 26 Eastland County Commissioners meeting agenda - Public Input regarding Eastland County Floodplain Regulations and Public input regarding Eastland County Subdivision Regulations were moved to the beginning of the meeting. A group of citizens were present to express their concerns, in particular regarding the Flatwood Data Center, about which many of the public’s questions have not been answered to their satisfaction.

Prior to that discussion, Rubin Zarate spoke to the court about his experiences with flooding issues. Zarate, who lives in Eastland on Bassett Street, conveyed that although there has been flooding in the area, he has nev- er had flooding at his

home, even during 2 major floods. The cost for flood insurance was very high and keeps going up he said. He asked that this issue be reconsidered on re-mapping and hoped an understanding could be reached. County Judge David Hullum noted that FEMA draws the maps.
