FROM THE GORMAN MAYOR

The Commission and the Mayor met on April 1st at 9:00am in the Gorman Community center for a workshop to discuss possible goals/projects for our community. Several topics were discussed but no action was taken because that was not the purpose of the meeting. However, as a result of the meeting the following items were placed on Thursday night’s agenda: discuss and make changes if desired to our current animal control ordinance; what to do about vacant- unoccupied houses in need of repair, incentives/ rewards/yard of the month for those property owners that are taking good care of their property; issues concerning the Gorman City Cemetery. The highway six project, park improvements, and downtown properties were also discussed.

I wish I could do something to slow down the growth of the weeds around town, especially in my yard. I certainly don’t want to receive one of the citations being issued to property owners that are not taking care of their property. That would be embarrassing! Please do you part to make our city a beautiful place to live and not a junk yard!

We lost what I feel is one of Gorman’s best last week. Howard Hagood passed away. He was my friend and a Masonic brother. He was one of the first people I met in 2005 when Vicki and I moved to Gorman. He was one of those people you would consider to be a pillar of the community! We’ve lost so many good people over the past 10-15 years. The funeral home was packed. A meal was provided for the family at the Gorman Community Center before the service and was opened to them afterwards. I can truly say that Howard had a wonderful family that all loved him very much and it was evident that they love each other too. It was a great reunion time for them all before and after the funeral. Howard will be missed by us all but not forgotten!
